Getting there

July 2, 2009

We are just about settled in to our new flat now and most of the (many) teething problems have been sorted out. Although I think the ancient fridge is struggling to cope with the heat so we may have to speak to the landlord about having that replaced. Ah, the joys of renting!

I have discovered that it is impossible to take a decent photo of the place so instead I focused on a few of the little things that were easier to get a picture of.

I love the weathered look of the letterbox and door fixtures. They give the place much more character and a greater sense of age and grandeur than it deserves!

This little chap was a favourite Christmas present from Matt. He bought it for me on a trip to London when he was really ill and felt awful but still struggled out to get me a prezzie! I’m a lucky girl.

It wouldn’t be home without books! This is just a small collection, mostly craft books. There are several boxes currently being stored at my parents’ house!

I have to confess to being a bit of a hoarder. I love things. I’m not sure why this is, except that I get it from my dad, who has huge collections of books and postcards. I love hunting around charity shops and car-boot sales for anything that catches my eye. Anything that I think looks pretty is fair game, although I try very hard not to accumulate too much clutter as we just don’t have the space for it! But that is the explanation for this odd little mushroom, which I found for 50p at a charity shop and I love it! The puppy came from Manda, who writes one of my favourite blogs and  has a wonderful shop.

I have a few new crafty endeavours to share with you soon, now I need to get out and make the most of the lovely weather we’re having here.

April 18, 2009

There has been a lot happening around here in the last couple of weeks. The Easter holidays are our busiest time for children’s activities at the reserve and Matt and I are moving into a new flat next weekend! It’s very exciting but I haven’t had as much time for blogging as I’d like! I will try to catch up with some of the things we’ve been up to over the next few weeks as I have some nice pictures I want to share.

Some things that have been making me happy today….

Hedgerows adorned in white as the blackthorn comes into blossom

The look of astonishment on a small boy’s face as we explained how tadpoles turn into frogs by growing legs either side of their tail

Matt cooking me Chinese chicken with egg-fried rice

Finally getting a copy of Softies

A visit from my favourite one-eyed dog

I hope you’re having a nice weekend too!

To begin a blog…

January 20, 2009

I’ve been meaning to start this blog for a while. Even when I tried to think of it as a new year’s resolution it has taken me almost a month to get going!  It’s surprisingly hard to know what to write in this first post. I don’t want to write too much of an ‘introduction’ as I’m hoping you’ll get to know me more as I post.

There are a few reasons for me starting this. One is that I enjoy reading other people’s blogs and I like the sense of community here in blog-land. Another is that it seems a good place to document little things that happen in life. If I can keep it up for a year that’s one year of little memories that I might not have otherwise. It is also a good incentive to take more photographs.

Lorton Meadows

Like this one of my office, ha ha! This is the nature reserve where i work.

I also enjoy making mixed media artwork and jewellery in my spare time, so this will also function as a place to document that. In turn I hope this will encourage me to create more if I think there might be people looking at what I do! It always helps to feel accountable to someone!
