August 11, 2009

We had a lovely few days in Sheffield, got to visit some friends and go back to a few of our old haunts (thanks Ann and everyone at the Dog and Partridge!) Back home and back to work now. I’ll be posting some of our exploits from the trip over the next few days.

I just wanted to share one of my brooches with you.

I made this little guy a while ago and I’ve been lucky enough to have it featured today on the Handmade Jewelry Club website! This is a great site promoting handmade items as well as sharing techniques and tutorials.

Also, head on over to Lazy Daisy Glass where Kathryn is having a fantastic giveaway of some of her beautiful glass creations, they really are stunning!

I’ve recently discovered inchies, via swap-bot, and I have to say they are quite addictive! It’s fun to see how much art you can fit on these tiny 1×1″ canvases. A quick search on flickr will bring up hundreds and they can be quite inspirational.

These are some inchies I made recently for a colour themed swap (sorry about the poor photo, I was trying to get a quick pic before sending them out to my partners and there was no natural light). I’m quite happy with how they turned out, and I also received some great inchies back:

I’m planning to try to collect a whole load from different people and make a sort of mosaic to frame for our wall, something like this. If you haven’t tried making them I really would recommend it. It’s a challenge to create such a mini work of art, but you might end up with some teeny treasures!

I made a treasury!

August 3, 2009

I’ve finally got the hang of the treasury feature on etsy! I waited until there was a space this afternoon and then pounced and got the chance to feature some of my favourite items from all the talented etsians out there. The treasury is here if you want to look. I’d love to hear your comments about it. I can see this getting quite addictive!

Here is a screen shot in case it expires before you get a look. And hoping you peeps are actually interested and I’m not just boring you with my new found passtime!

July 6, 2009

Yesterday we had a lovely day out in Winchester so that I could get to the Handm@de craft fair being held at the Guildhall. It was a fantastic event, and I’m glad I set a limit before I went in as it could have been very easy to spend a lot of money!

There was such a wide range of crafts represented, from jewellery to soaps to photographs to stuffed toys, and just about everything in between! I tried to buy some small items from as many stalls as possible to try to bring home a good selection and support a lot of artists! Here are some of my goodies…

Greeting gards from Joan Stewart and paperleaf, and postcards from Joe Hurry and Julia Davey.

Very funky pup keyring from Laurie Redman

Lovely ceramic buttons (I could have bought hundreds of these!) from Karen Turner and Penny Spooner

I love owls. I especially love embroidered owls with cute little heart buttons and bead dangles! From meninafeliz

These ladies had just about my favourite stall of the day, although there were so many I loved it’s hard to say that! But something about this table really draws you in, and the detailed little pieces like my owl were beautiful.

Another thing I loved about the fair was that so many people were using moo cards as business cards! They are really cute and I think I’ll have to get myself some.

After a good hour and a half wandering around the guildhall,we found a nice little pub with a lovely beer garden to sit in.

Even better, they had a little outdoor pool room with a television so we could watch the amazing Wimbledon final.

We ended up having to eat here because we couldn’t leave before the match was over! Nail-biting stuff.

Hope you had a lovely weekend too!

Young People Today…

February 5, 2009

Today I went to a conference on youth-led volunteering. It was so encouraging to see so many young people gaining skills and confidence and getting involved in their communities, and to see how much can be done to inspire them to want to make a difference in the world. It also made me realise how many obstacles there are in the way of many of these projects, how many barriers are put in place to prevent young people from being able to volunteer in their community, whether these are down to funding, training, transport or insurance. Hopefully today was the first step in developing a county-wide network of projects ane resources that will help more young people become involved in volunteering.

I started making ATCs a few years ago, they were one of the things that got me into art again after I left school. These are 2 I made recently for a swap.

I’m always looking for new images to use in my art, and I’ve just discovered a beautiful site by Lisa Vollrath with lots of inspiration and some beautiful images for sale. She is running a Valentine’s countdown with free images every day until the 14th. Click here to see the lovely Valentine images.
