Work In Progress

September 18, 2009

Here is a little something I started last week for Matt’s birthday. Sorry for the poor lighting, I was using my parents dining room (the only place I could find with room to get the sewing machine out) and there isn’t a lot of natural light.

I’ll show you the finished article when I remember to photograph it!

I’ve been lucky enough to be featured today in an interview for Donna’s blog! She makes the most beautiful fairies and art dolls which she sells in her shop. You can read the interview here.

Things to do

September 9, 2009

Today is one of those days when I’m finding it really hard to get anything done. You know the ones. Picking things up only to put them down again 10 minutes later, starting something and losing the motivation to finish it, not quite being able to concentrate on any one thing because there are a million others to think about.

Maybe it’s the change in the weather making me restless, moving towards autumn when we were promised another week of sunshine! Anyway… Here are a few new bits of jewellery I’ve been working on. They’re all available in my shop.

Off to try to get something done with the day, I think some list making is called for…

August 11, 2009

We had a lovely few days in Sheffield, got to visit some friends and go back to a few of our old haunts (thanks Ann and everyone at the Dog and Partridge!) Back home and back to work now. I’ll be posting some of our exploits from the trip over the next few days.

I just wanted to share one of my brooches with you.

I made this little guy a while ago and I’ve been lucky enough to have it featured today on the Handmade Jewelry Club website! This is a great site promoting handmade items as well as sharing techniques and tutorials.

Also, head on over to Lazy Daisy Glass where Kathryn is having a fantastic giveaway of some of her beautiful glass creations, they really are stunning!

I’ve recently discovered inchies, via swap-bot, and I have to say they are quite addictive! It’s fun to see how much art you can fit on these tiny 1×1″ canvases. A quick search on flickr will bring up hundreds and they can be quite inspirational.

These are some inchies I made recently for a colour themed swap (sorry about the poor photo, I was trying to get a quick pic before sending them out to my partners and there was no natural light). I’m quite happy with how they turned out, and I also received some great inchies back:

I’m planning to try to collect a whole load from different people and make a sort of mosaic to frame for our wall, something like this. If you haven’t tried making them I really would recommend it. It’s a challenge to create such a mini work of art, but you might end up with some teeny treasures!

Not quite the weekend…

July 10, 2009

I was really looking forward to the weekend. Just ready to enjoy a relaxing couple of days, house-sitting for Matt’s parents, taking the dog for long country walks, watching the grand prix, having time to cook a few decent meals together… And then I remembered I have to work on Saturday. It’s the Weymouth seafood festival so I have to get down there to help set up a stand and talk to anyone who’ll listen about sustainable fisheries and the Marine Bill that’s currently working its way through parliament. Hopefully I’ll get a bit of time to look at the other stalls and try some of the seafood too!

These are a couple of ATCs that I made for a swap recently, I did a few more but don’t have a working scanner at the moment and I can’t seem to take good photos of them to I had to send them on their way without keeping a record! There is also a card for Matt’s sister who has just gone travelling for a few weeks.

Have a nice weekend, whatever you’re doing!

Apology. With flowers.

March 8, 2009

Sorry for the slightly longer than intended absence from blogging. It’s funny, after the first week or so, when I was just busy, I found that whenever I had the time to sit down and write I couldn’t think of anything to say. Then it became a bit of a demon, something that I should do, not something that I wanted to do, and the longer I left it the harder it was to think of something to write about! I didn’t start this blog for it to become a chore, so I’ve just left it for a bit.

But having spent some time in the last few days catching up with some of the wonderful blogs I follow (many of them listed in the sidebar) I’m feeling much more inspired and ready to get back to regular posting. Does this lack of mojo affect all bloggers at some point? Probably not after only a month of writing! It does seem that most of the blogs I read are updated regularly and don’t seem to suffer from long periods of “I don’t know what to write”. Maybe there is a trick I don’t know about.

Just to prove that spring is really on the way… Even though we were hit by another 4 inches of snow on Thursday!

key charms

These are some charms I’ve made recently for an upcoming charm swap hosted by Amber. They are made from little keys with beads wrapped around them. These old keys are another thing I tend to hoard, so I thought it would be a good opportunity to make use of them and let someone else enjoy them. I’ll try to be back soon to share some little pretties I found recently.

Young People Today…

February 5, 2009

Today I went to a conference on youth-led volunteering. It was so encouraging to see so many young people gaining skills and confidence and getting involved in their communities, and to see how much can be done to inspire them to want to make a difference in the world. It also made me realise how many obstacles there are in the way of many of these projects, how many barriers are put in place to prevent young people from being able to volunteer in their community, whether these are down to funding, training, transport or insurance. Hopefully today was the first step in developing a county-wide network of projects ane resources that will help more young people become involved in volunteering.

I started making ATCs a few years ago, they were one of the things that got me into art again after I left school. These are 2 I made recently for a swap.

I’m always looking for new images to use in my art, and I’ve just discovered a beautiful site by Lisa Vollrath with lots of inspiration and some beautiful images for sale. She is running a Valentine’s countdown with free images every day until the 14th. Click here to see the lovely Valentine images.
